Mama (2013) - Andres Muschietti

Synopsis:
Two young girls are found in a cabin in the woods and are taken in by their Uncle and his girlfriend, five years after the two mysteriously disappeared. Turns out what was keeping them alive all those years.... came with them.

A distinct horror picture which occasionally deviates from it's uniquity to shock us with the tried and tested scare tactics that we're all familiar with. It's story is intriguing, the unknown alignments of the young girls and the motives of the ghost allow for a break away from tired genre roles and inserts interesting sub-plot relationships. Despite these little differences it also holds a lot of similarities to the typical ghost story, the blood of which pumps through its veins, stopping it from attaining true greatness... that's not to say it's not at least standard great, though.
