The Ring (2002) - Gore Verbinski

Synopsis:
A journalist watches a video tape which will kill her in seven days. In that time she seeks to unravel the tape's mystery and save herself and her son from certain death.

Constantly gloomy and chock full to the brim with pathetic fallacy, The Ring as a significantly frightening horror film no longer stands up to the impact of its original release. After a slew of imitations and parodies it's safe to say a modern audience wont pick up on it's terrifying potential. That's not to take away from it's solid story telling or the seriousness with which Gore Verbinski took it's production. Even to this day you'll probably still get a kick out of The Ring, but if you can try to watch it before Scary Movie 3, that would be great.
