The Orphanage (2007) - Juan Antonio Bayona

Synopsis:
A woman returns to the orphanage where she grew up and plans to reopen it for handi-capped children. However, not long after their arrival her son begins to start playing games with a new invisible friend.

It's certainly an eerie setting for the director to bombard us heart jumping scares but instead the main enjoyment and fear comes from the tense atmosphere. For the most part Bayona hits the nail on the head although at the end of the day this doesn't feel like anything special compared to other haunted house pictures. A strong cast, and a superb twist makes this a solid addition to the horror genre, just don't expect anything too game changing.
